Introduction to BOTOX

Although age comes with life experiences and wonderful memories, it also comes with some unwanted baggage. Our skin sags, wrinkles, and loosens up, giving the body and (more particularly) the face an older appearance that some people aren’t quite ready to have. At Personique On The Spot in Austin, we offer an opportunity to set back the clock a bit and regain that firm and youthful look that you want with BOTOX.

What is BOTOX?

Botox is one of the best solutions to diminish the look of facial lines and wrinkles. These FDA-approved injections use a purified protein administered at very low doses to prevent the nerve-produced synapses from reaching the facial areas treated, relaxing the targeted facial muscles, and smoothing out the skin. This is also why many younger patients request a little Botox to prevent future wrinkles and treat persistent frown lines. There is also the fact that Botox stays in the area where the injection occurred, rather than migrating to other areas of the body. This enhances safety while prolonging the anti-aging results of Botox injections.

What are the Benefits of BOTOX?

BOTOX offers so many benefits to our Austin patients! Here are just a few of them:

Who are the Best Candidates for BOTOX treatments?

Ideal candidates for an Austin BOTOX treatment area are:

Botox injections work most effectively in areas that are constantly being exercised and always moving, like around the forehead and the eyebrows. Botox is commonly used to smooth out scowl lines (between the brows) and crow’s feet (wrinkles around the eyes).

Besides diminishing wrinkles, Botox can also be administered to raise the eyebrows to make the patient look more awake and refreshed.

Botox isn’t only for cosmetic purposes, either. It’s frequently used to treat migraines and muscle spasms, and even to reduce heavy sweating by desensitizing the nerves around these areas.

BOTOX for Men

Botox for Men in Austin, Texas is a growing trend. Traditionally, temporary or semi-permanent cosmetic procedures have been considered a trend among women. But these days, men have become more confident about taking pride in their appearance and doing whatever it takes to reduce the signs of aging or other physical “flaws” that they’d like to see addressed.

Often, it is men that rely on looking “put together” in their careers that choose to go in the direction of procedures like Botox, as this treatment fits easily into their busy lifestyle without the need for recovery time.

More invasive cosmetic surgery options have several flaws, explaining why the popularity of injecting Botox (and other similar procedures) for men has increased by over 250% in the last ten years.

Getting Botox is quick and easy – to receive Botox, you simply need to pop into your medical spa or plastic surgeon’s office, and then get right back to work. Since many men are choosing to improve their look to remain competitive in a challenging job market, it stands to reason that Botox is a wise investment in their career, as it does not require time off from work.

There is no recovery with Botox – there is no scarring, and there is no need to massively limit activities, or do anything but live your ordinary life.

Results last but aren’t permanent – as your aesthetic preferences change, you can approach the use of Botox in a way that addresses these needs. With plastic surgery, the results are often permanent, and further enhancement requires going under the knife again.

Botox offers subtle change – appearance is enhanced, but men can ensure the administration is approached in such a way that they simply appear more refreshed. Likewise, getting Botox can happen under the radar, meaning that professional colleagues and friends don’t need to be privy to your personal affairs, as you’ll never miss a beat in life.

Botox can address other issues – Botox is most commonly used to combat the physical effects of facial aging, however, it can also be used to treat conditions like hyperhidrosis (excessive sweating). This is another male botox procedure that can greatly improve the patient’s self-confidence.

What’s the First Step?

The first step to getting BOTOX in Austin is to schedule an in-office consultation with one of our technicians. When you come in for this appointment, we will have you address your desires from BOTOX, answer any questions or concerns you may have regarding the treatment, and give you a personal evaluation. If you agree with the assessment, your tailored treatment plan will be made and we can either administer the BOTOX immediately following your consultation, or you can schedule a treatment session with our Patient Coordinator for another day that works best for you.

As with any medical appointment, you must keep an open and honest dialogue concerning your health and medical history. Transparency allows our staff to make the best and safest decisions when it comes to your treatment, as well as prevents any potential risks or side effects.

What to Expect on the Day of a BOTOX Treatment

Botox treatment is very fast and effective. In just under 15 minutes, the patient receives some local numbing, and a series of injections are administered to their “problem areas” using an ultra-fine needle. Our expert injectors assess patient needs and only add more if necessary.

Once the targeted face muscle is treated, the wrinkled appearance is instantly reduced as the skin regains its youthful elasticity and glow. Since the treatment is so minimally invasive, the patient can resume normal activities immediately without any required downtime or recovery necessary.

BOTOX Recovery

Once you are finished with your session, you may be asked to stay for about 10 – 15 minutes so that we can make sure you have no allergic reactions to the toxin. Once you are cleared, then you can go about your daily routine. You will be given a list of instructions to follow so that you can the most out of your BOTOX as well as a healthy recovery.

We highly suggest waiting at least 24 hours before you exercise to avoid spreading the filler to other parts of your body. Not only could it reduce the effectiveness of the BOTOX, but it could also increase the likelihood of bruising. You are encouraged to focus on controlling your facial muscles and expressions like frowning and smiling and lifting your eyebrows.

Additionally, for the first 24 hours, you should avoid wearing makeup, ingesting alcohol, or taking painkillers of any kind. If you do feel any pain or discomfort, you can lightly use an ice pack for 10 – 15 minutes at a time.

Finally, try to avoid any sun or heat exposure for the first 1 – 2 days, so stay away from the following:

BOTOX FAQ’s

Is BOTOX painful?

BOTOX injections are not a painful procedure, however, some patients have expressed feeling a pinching or stinging sensation from the needle insertion. Any pain felt will be temporary and should be very minimal.

How many appointments will I need?

In most instances, Botox treatments are needed every 4-6 months. However, many patients find that after their first botox treatment, the muscles will eventually become used to relaxing, so treatments can be spaced out longer.

How long until I see results?

Your BOTOX results typically are noticeable immediately after your treatment, however, the targeted face muscles will take 2 – 4 days to loosen up to be able to move freely again. A typical BOTOX treatment takes up to 2 weeks to see the maximum results from BOTOX.

Can I combine BOTOX with other procedures?

Many of our clients will combine their BOTOX cosmetic procedure with other treatments, such as a Chemical Peel or Microdermabrasion, however, it varies on a patient-to-patient basis. If you are interested in having additional procedures or treatments performed, please discuss this with the technician during your consultation. They will be able to use their experience and knowledge to determine the best treatment combinations for you.

What are the risks associated with BOTOX?

BOTOX is a very safe procedure that our staff has plenty of experience with, however, some potential risks and side effects are associated with the treatment, such as:

  • Crooked smile
  • Drooling
  • Droopy eyelid or cockeyed eyebrows
  • Eye dryness or excessive tearing
  • Flu-like symptoms
  • Headache
  • Pain, swelling, or bruising at the injection site

Most of these side effects should correct themselves over a few days, however, if you are noticing any long-lasting or overly concerning issues, please contact our office immediately.

How does BOTOX work?

Botox shots block certain nerve signals that cause the targeted facial muscle to contract. The most common use of these injections is to relax the facial muscles that cause frown lines and other facial wrinkles. Botox injections also are used to ease symptoms of some health conditions.

Will I be able to control my facial appearance?

Absolutely! The muscles are simply relaxed, so you will have full use of your facial expressions. You can still frown, smile, or look surprised, but without wrinkles and creases.

What is the difference between BOTOX and Dermal fillers?

While both injectables are non-surgical procedures used to help patients achieve a fresh and youthful appearance, there is a big difference between these two cosmetic injections.

Botulinum Toxin type A is an injectable treatment that when used in moderation, can affect the chemical signals that cause muscle movement, effectively paralyzing them to provide you with smoother skin texture, devoid of signs of aging such as forehead lines and crow's feet. Certain neuromodulators like BOTOX have even been able to improve excessive underarm sweating or potential relief chronic migraines.

There are different types of injectable fillers out there, however Hyaluronic Acid (HA) is the most common one. HA is a natural substance that cushions and lubricates your joints and other tissues. Different forms of hyaluronic acid are used in cosmetic dermatology to improve volume and encourage collagen production.
