Introduction to Lip Fillers

Despite what is often said, the facial feature that usually draws the most attention is the mouth. Even if it’s not what catches someone’s eye immediately, the moment you start talking, there will be multiple instances of mouth gazing, and that could be a good thing or a bad thing. For those who are subconscious about thinner “bird-lips”, or just overall lack of lip volume, there is a very popular and non-surgical solution to improving your lips’ appearance. At Personique on the Spot in Austin, TX, we strive to provide the best experience and stunning Lip Fillers results in town! With two convenient locations, you can achieve the fuller, voluminous lips that you’ve always dreamed of in no time!

What are Lip Fillers?

Lip Fillers are injections of gel-like substances that serve as a non-surgical way to restore volume and fullness to your lips. At Personique on the Spot, we offer several different types of fillers, with Hyaluronic Acid (HA) being one of the most commonly used. HA is a natural component found in your body that is primarily located in your skin’s connective tissue. While lip fillers, unfortunately, won’t last forever, they will last you anywhere from 6 months to 2 years depending on which you use.

Types of Lip Fillers Offered*

JUVÉDERM®

Juvederm is an FDA-approved injection that is filled with a water-binding natural ingredient known as “hyaluronic acid”. This ingredient is already found naturally in the skin and works wonders in creating fuller, more volumized lips without requiring any harsh chemicals or dangerous additives.

RADIESSE®

Radiesse is a volumizing filler that contains tiny calcium-based microspheres suspended in a water-based gel. These calcium microspheres are very similar to the natural minerals found in our bodies. Over time, the body absorbs the microspheres and gel, leaving only natural collagen behind. This treatment is unique in that it stimulates the production of new collagen, so even after the filler material breaks down, newly replenished collagen remains around the injection site to maintain a firm, smooth complexion.

RESTYLANE®

Restylane is a part of the hyaluronic acid filler family that creates volume to enhance facial contouring. As an FDA-approved filler, Restylane will boost collagen production and reduce the appearance of fine lines or wrinkles.

What’s the First Step?

The first step in getting Lip Fillers in Austin, TX is to contact your nearest Personique on the Spot and schedule a consultation. During this appointment, you will meet with a member of our aesthetic team who will answer any questions or concerns you have, listen to your desires for the results, as well as offer advice on the treatment and a recovery plan for your lips. Once you agree to the procedure, we can start the day of or our Patient Coordinator can help schedule a future day that fits your needs.

What to Expect on the Day of Lip Fillers

When it’s time for your Lip Filler treatment, you will recline in our chair and make yourself as comfortable as possible. We will first apply a topical numbing cream to your lips to reduce any pain, as well as relax you during the actual injections. Next, using a very thin needle, we will inject the chosen filler into specific areas of your lips. Depending on what was discussed during your consultation and what your desired appearance is, this could take place on the edges of your lips (vermillion border), the curve in the center of your upper lip (Cupid’s bow), and your oral commissures (corners of your mouth).

With each specific injection, the injector will gently massage the filler around and assess the results, only adding more if needed. Once the injections are completed, you may be given an ice pack to reduce any swelling or bruising that may occur.

Your entire treatment should only take about 30 minutes, but this will vary with each patient.

Lip Fillers Recovery

Before you leave our MedSpa, you will be asked to wait around for about 10 minutes to make sure you don’t have any allergic reactions. Once it seems like you’re OK, we will dismiss you and you can return to your normal routine. It is important to remember that your lips may be slightly reddened, bruised, or have an “overfilled” appearance. These reactions will subside over time but may draw attention.

We will also provide you with some instructions about how to get the most out of your filler procedure and have the most successful recovery. You should avoid exercising or any strenuous activity during the first 24 hours, but you should remember to drink plenty of water. Also during this time period, do your best to avoid touching or pursing your lips, so this means no kissing, using straws, and even wearing lip balm, lipstick, etc. Finally, if you are experiencing any pain or discomfort, you can lightly apply a bag of ice to your lips for about 10 minutes at a time. This will also help with inflammation.
